Xceptance is announcing the availability of Xceptance LoadTest (XLT) version 4.1.7. This is an update release and includes smaller improvements and defect fixes. The update is recommended for everyone.

Improvements

• Script Developer: Breakpoints can be set at a module call now. They have been moved to the first command of the module before.
• Runtime Engine: WebDriver has been updated to version 2.16.1.
• Script Developer: Now it supports new HTML 5 input elements, such as email and date, during record and playback.

Fixes

• Runtime Engine: When running multiple test cases at once from Eclipse or with Ant, the values measured for each test case were always stored in the timers.csv file of the first test case. This was a development mode issue only.
• Master controller: Agent controller urls are now checked to ensure that they are unique.
• Script Developer: The base url text box was not correctly updated when the url was changed via the Edit Dialog before.
• Script Developer: WaitFor commands included a small pause before checking the condition even though the condition was already fulfilled. This pause has been removed.
• Script Developer: Using a mouse wheel for scrolling now works in Firefox 9.
• Runtime Engine: When getting the value of an option element, the HtmlUnitDriver does not fall back to the option’s text content in case the option does not specify a value attribute. This behavior is mandatory according to the HTML specification. Fixed in the XltDriver until a fix is provided by the underlying project.
• Runtime Engine: For input elements of type hidden, HtmlUnit’s API method isDisplayed() returned true although hidden inputs are never visible to the user.

Today we updated our web site with the new logo of our company and product. We hope you like it.

It is modern, unique, and resembles our company colors. The font is distinct and the X is pretty eye-catching, because it has been carefully designed and crafted to express the uniqueness of Xceptance and it’s product and service offers.

As you might have noticed, the blog language has changed. All upcoming posts are going to be in English to reach a broader audience. Old articles and tags remain in German. As soon as WordPress 3.0 comes out and offers its promised multi-language, we might split this blog and run it bi-lingual.

In den letzten Tagen kommen wir immer wieder an die Stelle, wo wir uns fragen, ob ein Blog in Englisch nicht Sinn machen würde. Allerdings sollte man den Aufwand zur Pflege von zwei Blogs in zwei Sprachen nicht unterschätzen.

Deswegen die folgenden Fragen an unsere Leser:

• Brauchen wir zwei Sprachen oder würde ein rein englisches Blog genügen?
• Ist ein deutschsprachiges Blog gewünscht oder spricht die IT-Welt nicht ohnehin meist Englisch?

Eigentlich sollte man nicht genötigt sein, jede kleine Gefahr zu melden. Bei mehr als 2 Millionen Facebook-Nutzern in Deutschland kann es aber nicht Schaden, wenn man darauf hinweisst, dass die folgende Email selbstverständlich eine Fälschung ist und wohl einen Wurm oder Trojaner unterschieben will.

Also Finger weg. Neue Passwörter von Diensten werden nie als Anhang verschickt. Maximal kommt eine Aufforderung, dass das Passwort geändert wurde und man bitte es neu anfordern soll. Selbst wenn der Absender profile@facebook.com heisst und damit scheinbar ok ist… Emailabsender lassen sich sehr einfach fälschen.

Der Anhang ist übrigens ein ZIP-File mit einer ausführbaren Datei drin… was für ein Zufall!

Google hat sich entschieden, Problemen bei der Entwicklung von Webapplikationen aus dem Weg zu gehen und kündigt die Unterstützung des Internet Explorer 6 auf. Auch der Support vom Firefox 2 läuft aus, aber den nutzen ja die wenigsten Leute, weil das Update auf Version 3 einfach ist. Zudem war der FF2 nicht schlecht bei der Einhaltung von Webstandards und dürfte locker dem IE7 das Wasser reichen können.

Das ist ein gutes Signal, denn wenn der Marktführer es vormacht, dann werden viele Leute und Firmen nachziehen.

Einige aktuelle Zahlen zur Nutzung verschiedener Webbrowser finden sich bei Bivingsreport.

Immer wieder interessant, aber auch lustig, auf welche Schlüsselwörter Google-Adwords-Anzeigen geschaltet sind. In diesem Fall sogar inhaltlich sehr lustig.

Es gibt wirklich ein Videospiel, das Lode Runner heisst. Aber warum jemand die Anzeige auf das Schlüsselwort Loadrunner schaltet, bleibt mir ein Rätsel. Hier hat man wohl den Vorschlag der automatischen Suchwortoptimierung von Google einfach blind abgenickt. Amazon wird das verschwendete Budget verschmerzen können.

Ein spannendes Jahr 2009 neigt sich dem Ende. An diese Stelle möchten wir unseren Leserinnen und Lesern ein fröhliches Weihnachtsfest und einen guten Rutsch ins Neue Jahr wünschen.

Mein Windows XP meinte heute, dass diese Datei eine Intel IPhone kompatible Datei sei… kommt das iPhone von Intel und Apple hat es nur lizenziert? Oder hat man sich hier bei Microsoft vertippt? Eventuell hat hier Intel auch nur Rechte an einer IPhone-Applikation, die nie große Verbreitung fand. Komisch…

Wer sagt denn, dass man als Tester nicht kreativ sein kann. Dieses Meisterwerk ist mir heute bei einem Lasttest geglückt. Ich nenne es Himalaya.
